Leopard Class

Welcome to Leopard Class

with Mr Boyles!

Dear Parents,

In Leopard class this term our main topic will be Lights, Camera, Action. We will find out about how early cinema began and how the technology for making a ‘moving image’ was developed.

In English we will read as a class The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznik, a magical and mysterious tale of a boy who finds himself caught up in a bizarre series of events set in Paris during the early days of cinema. Selznik is an extraordinary illustrator and we will be looking closely at his work which can easily be found online. He has also written a number of other books in the same style as Hugo which are also widely available.

Over the next few weeks in English we will be concentrating on the following areas: explanations, diaries, settings, and creative writing.

In Science we will be studying microorganisms.

In RE our topic for the term is ‘The Kingdom of God’ in which we will investigate how Christians interpret Jesus’ message and how some charities have been influenced by his teaching.

Weekly learning intentions for all lessons in the curriculum can be found in the Leopards section of KLZ.

Thank you to all parents who have been testing their children at home on their times tables. There are still a few children in Year 5 and 6 who need regular practise at recalling their tables at speed. You may have already discovered the Squeebles apps that are available. The Squeebles times tables app is rather good.

All pupils in Year 5 and 6 are required to read every weekday evening for at least 20 minutes. Their reading records need to be initialled daily by an adult. If your child is struggling with fluency or comprehension then they will need to read aloud to an adult each day.

Please do not hesitate to contact me via the office if you wish to speak to me.

Many thanks for your support,

Yours sincerely

P Boyles
