5th September 2017
Dear Parents and families,
Welcome to Eagle class 2017-18!
Our topic this term is – The Indus Valley Civilization
English – In English we will focus on GPVS skills (Grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling) to support our writing in both narrative and historical recount.
Maths – This term we are consolidating our knowledge and application of place value, and our mental and written arithmetic.
Science – We are learning about all living things, and particularly how living things are classified.
Topic – We will learn about the people of the Indus valley and investigate how they lived at this time in history. The children will be finding out about the geographical features of this area, both physical and human.
Art – We will learn about famous French painter Paul Cezanne, and develop our own painting and sketching skills.
RE – Christianity and Creation.
PSHE/British Values – We will be discussing belonging and identity, and looking at the experience of different groups of people living in our country today.
We want your children to be involved and enthusiastic about their own learning. Please encourage them to bring in books, items, photos etc that are connected to our theme!
Spellings will be sent home weekly on a Monday, and due back on a Friday to be tested. Weekly arithmetic activities will also be included. Our termly creative learning tasks will be sent out in Week 2. These can be completed at any point during the term.
Friendship, Endurance, Koinonia, Wisdom. We are encouraging our staff and children to consider not only why these values are positive, but how they help us improve as learners and citizens. Please talk with your child about this at home.
Studies show that children who are exposed to a rich vocabulary in their formative years, through both conversation and reading, build a considerably wider bank of words than others. Please try to read with your child every day, as this is hugely beneficial to their learning!
It is essential that your child has a full Sissinghurst P.E kit in school all week. Please can all parents make sure that every item of clothing including P.E kits and shoes are clearly named.
P.E is part of our school curriculum, and physical exercise has been proven to maintain wellbeing and raise mood!
As always, all parents are invited to Celebration Assembly every Friday at 9am when we celebrate our children’s achievements.
Please do speak to any of our class team if you have any questions or concerns.
Alternatively please contact the office to make an appointment or email me directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your continued support.
