Welcome to Lion Class with Mrs Lyon!
We hope you all had a good Easter holiday and the children are rested and raring to go!
Our topic for this term will be ‘Turrets and Tiaras’. This will include learning about castles and knights and what it was like in a castle long ago. We will be visiting Bodiam Castle on Tuesday 8th May, you will receive a letter about this shortly. The topic will culminate in a castle style banquet on Thursday 24th May, when we hope the children will come to school dressed as knights and princesses for the day! We also hope to invite you in at 2:40pm on this day to look at your child’s topic work and maybe join in with the end of our banquet!
In Maths we will be learning about addition, subtraction, counting to 100 and number recognition to 20. We will also be learning about finding half of shapes and numbers, doubles of numbers to 5, 2D shape and patterns. Further details will be given each week in the Learning Intentions information.
In English as well as the daily phonics and handwriting activities we will be learning about fairy stories with castle links. We will also be writing about life as a knight, writing plans and invitations for our Banquet.
We would like the children to plan and carry out their own project at home which can be about anything to do with castles. They can then bring their project into school during the last week of term (week commencing 21st May) to share with the rest of the class. We have listed some ideas below to get them started.
* Drawings and paintings
* Photos of castles
* Castle visits
* Costumes worn
* Find out about castles on the internet
* Enjoy stories about castles
* Model of a castle
We look forward to seeing what the children do, please keep it fun and only do as much as your child wants to.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our class meeting tomorrow (Tuesday 17th April) at 3pm, when we will be talking about class teaching activities for the term.
