Open The Book

Open the Book have returned to Sissinghurst recently! This is a group of volunteers from Trinity Church, Sissinghurst and St Mary's Frittenden who act out Bible stories to bring them to life for children.  The children (and staff) were very excited to see them again after their absence due to Covid restrictions.  Most recently, they told the story of The First Disciples (Matthew 4:18). Two children were asked to joined in with the acting too and they did a great job!  Thank-you Open the Book!

Religious Education Curriculum

As a Church School, Religious Education has a high profile within our school curriculum.  Our aim is to enable our children to become religiously literate and to help prepare them for life in the 21st Century.  We follow the Kent Agreed Syllabus, with children in Key Stage One receiving one hour of RE teaching per week, rising to one and a quarter hours in Key Stage Two. Children learn significant theological concepts in Christianity as well as other world religions of Judaism, Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism.  RE at Sissinghurst helps children with their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as their own religious beliefs. 

All RE lessons are enquiry based and each unit of lessons begins with a question.  Children have the opportunity to reflect upon these questions through different learning styles such as art, stories, interactive games, studying artefacts, drama, music and visits.  Pupils’ comments may be recorded in thought bubbles, pictures or on post-it notes and added to the classroom working wall.

Courage

We persevere and we are ready to learn, to try out best to make a difference to ourselves and others being strong and courageous as God teaches in Joshua 1:9 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go".

Forgiveness

We treat others with respect and we are ready to say sorry when we upset others as God teaches in Ephesians 4:32 "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as Christ God forgave you".

Service

We look outwards at the world and at others to see how we can keep each other safe and help our community and our world as God teaches in Acts 20:35 "It is more blessed to give than to receive". 

Kindness

We are ready to be kind, trustworthy friends like Jesus was to His disciples. With warm hearts we show love to others to help keep each other safe, ensuring that we respect and celebrate everyone's uniqueness as God teaches in Ephesians 4:22 "Be kind o one another".
